Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir (original title: Miraculous, les aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir, English title: Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir) is a 2015 French television 3D computer-animated superhero series written and directed by Thomas Astruc. The series first debuted in South Korea on EBS, and in France on TF1 on October 19, 2015. In the United States, it was first broadcast on Nickelodeon in December of the same year, and later on the Disney Channel. In Hungary, the series was broadcast on Disney Channel on December 6, 2015.

The story is set in Paris. The main characters are Marinette Dupain-Cheng, a teenage elementary school girl, and her classmate and love interest, Adrien Agreste. Adrien does not reciprocate Marinette's feelings, as she is unable to express herself. The two are not ordinary teenagers, as they are secretly superheroes who protect the people of Paris. Marinette, the Miraculous Ladybug, has a superpower of creation, while Adrien, the Black Cat, draws his strength from destruction. Both can transform into superheroes with the help of a special talisman, and the power of their talismans is provided by two small magical creatures called kwami. Marinette's kwami ​​is Tikki, and Adrien's is Plagg.

Marinette and Adrien's main enemy is Skull and Bones, a mysterious villain who also has his own little kwami, Nooroo, who provides him with superpowers. This power is used by Death's Head to possess the souls of the citizens of Paris through their negative emotions and turn them into supervillains, and then force them to capture Ladybug and Cat Noir. His main goal is to obtain the talismans of the two superheroes, because with the help of the two tools he can gain divine power, which he wants to use for his own purposes. However, the two superheroes always defeat the supervillains sent against them and save the people of Paris. Death's Head, however, is constantly lurking, waiting for the next strike. He uses negative emotions to increase his power (i.e. if someone is sad, angry, or hurt, he takes control of them and turns them into evil). His true identity is unknown to the two main characters, and viewers only learn later in the series that Adrien's father, Gabriel Agreste, is the mysterious villain who terrorizes Paris - but his true intentions are much more serious than they seem.

While Marinette and Adrien fight as superheroes, they also live the lives of average teenagers. Marinette spends most of her days helping out at her parents' bakery, while Adrien is a famous photo model who works for her father's fashion company. In addition to being classmates, they are also good friends. Marinette has a hopeless crush on Adrien, although Adrien doesn't reciprocate - his heart is breaking for his fellow superhero, Ladybug. (Neither of them knows the other's identity because they can't reveal themselves, not even to each other.) Although they are both superheroes, like teenagers, they make a lot of mistakes or often act recklessly, but in the end they always get out of the mess.
