Opposing the Mixels are the Nixels, led by Major Nixel and his boss, King Nixel, who live to tear the Mixels apart, get rid of the Cubits, and hate colors.

Mixels is set on a fictional planet, Mixel Planet, where the eponymous creatures live and adventure in various lands. The Mixels are divided into twenty-four tribes based on fantasy elements or urban occupations, and have individual abilities and traits associated with these tribes. These creatures are able to combine with each other to create temporary fusions called Mixes (combinations of any Mixels), Maxes (combinations of three Mixels from a tribe representing their element), or Murps (uncontrollable combinations of any Mixels), with the help of an object called a Cubit.
