Attila Ambrus, a little boy from Csíkszentlélek, is raised by his grandmother. His greatest desire is to become an ice hockey player. After his grandmother's death, his father gave Attila to his brother. He later entered a dormitory, but because he stole a book, he was kicked out of school. After that, he was sent to a reformatory.
During his conscript years, he escaped to Hungary, where he managed to join the Dózsa ice hockey team. Since he needed money to obtain Hungarian citizenship, he began robbing post offices and banks.
The smaller operations became increasingly tough, and then he found a partner for the robberies in the person of one of his teammates.
The television program Kriminális of the time regularly reported on the robberies, from which the audience could also know that the bank robber might have drunk a glass or two of whiskey before his robberies. It was in this program that he was nicknamed the "Whiskey Robber".
